This week on the podcast we go over Toyota’s recall situation, again. Besides that, there’s a ton of information buried in this weeks 80 minutes. In our news segment: we discuss Lincoln, Mercury and Ford and possible sales cannibalization. Also in Ford news, we go over that company’s crossover bonanza. We finish up the news by discussing Ed Whitacre’s now permanent tenureship as General Motors CEO.
In the garage: Joel talks about his experiences with the V6 Equinox.
Clip of the week: We go over Chrysler’s “Coming Home” clip and the automakers reinvigorated media campaign.
Talking Points:
- Chrysler’s revival? Chrysler’s start production dates have been revealed (courtesy of Allpar). We go over the refreshed products and the 5 new products Chrysler will unveil and sale in 2010. We also discuss preliminary pricing of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler’s new consumer websites.
- Saab/ Spyker: We discuss the binding deal conjured up by Spyker/GM last week. We go over the divestment of Russian criminals in Spyker and the fact that Saab Spyker Cars NV will be in a perilous cash position almost from the get go. We finish by giving our prognosis on whether the company can really survive.
- Toyota Recalls Redux: We go over the new recall of more than 1M additional vehicles. We discuss the halt in production and sales and how that will affect the automaker’s bottom-line. We finish of that segment with some of Joel’s passionate thoughts.
