AutoBird Podcast – Esp14: “Say Your Goodbyes”
February 9, 2010 by Colin Bird

This week on the AutoBird Podcast we’re saying our goodbyes to a nameplate and a couple brands.
We start the podcast by going over last month’s sales numbers. In Joel’s garage is a 2010 Cadillac SRX Turbo: he goes over that trim and compares it to the 3.0-liter V6 he drove last month.
This Week in Car News:
- Toyota CEO finally speaks and hopes to reestablish confidence with anxious customers
- GM decides to stay in the Renaissance Center after contemplating moving
- Original Saab 9-5 finally ends production in Sweden. Is that the end of the GM2900 or not?
Clip of the Week:
We discuss the Oscar nominated “The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant”, a movie about the closing of the Moraine Assembly in 2008.
Talking Points:
Goodbye Saturn, Pontiac:
With only 939 new Pontiacs and Saturns left in this world, we discuss the now definite closing of the two brands.
- What happens if your Saturn dealership is dead?
- What about replacement parts?
- What are the discounts available on the remaining inventory?
- How does GM intended on keeping Pontiac/ Saturn customers within the remaining core brands?
All will be discussed and answered in that segment.
Kia in Crisis?
In this segment, I purpose a what-if scenario to Joel. What if Kia (and to a lesser extent Hyundai) are not performing as splendidly as most people think?
We go over Kia’s shaky sales numbers, its rapidly growing lineup of mediocre nameplates, its growing fleet sales and incentives.
Listen, comment and enjoy!

P.S. I know I said “extinguished” instead of “distinguished” at the beginning of the podcast. Sue me.
